1. SARAH FRISON - I write under my own name on here

2. Probably this one since it got a comment, a like and a re-stack https://substack.com/@sarahfrison/note/c-65865207

3. SUNDAY

4. Probably this one https://substack.com/@sarahfrison/note/c-65211416 . I feel bad for the poor post, I have had a similar quote note do better.

5. MONDAY

6. Currently 52 followers, started with 32.

I do still have two more days to go but so far all my notes have followed a similar pattern to the ones I posted before the experiment. I actually posted things outside of the experiment that did better 😂.

Wow, that is a massive 63% uplift in followers! 👏

Did taking part in this experiment mean you posted more Notes that usual? If so, roughly what sort of percentage?

PS: Love that you feel sorry for the bad performing Notes, I thought that was just me. 😂

Haha, well yeah, poor note on display. I thought I had posted more but it's roughly the same. I normally re-stack things when I see them but now I had to go in and think about what to post based on what was on the list that day so at first I might have posted/re-stacked 2-3 things a day but towards the end looking at my profile often the listed note for the day was the only one I'd posted that day so at the start maybe one more a day and then towards the end just the one a day. I do think quite a few of those new people that followed me was from me chatting in other places rather than from my own Notes, as much as you can see where someone came from on Substack, at least.

Yes, it would be good to have more visibility from an analytics perspective on how many people clicked through to a Post from a Note, that number would be useful to know.

Your growth rate is great though, wherever it's come from! All visibility is a good thing. ✔️ 👏

You know, I don't mind not having all the stats, when you do it very quickly becomes a 'what does best' race rather than just sharing and chatting to others. I wanted to add that bit about the growth rate in case other people read that and thought it was just the experiment that meant I got more people who followed me and maybe they hadn't experienced the same. I think it's usually better to add a caveat if it applies so other people know the whole thing. Although I guess not mentioning it makes for a better ad for the experiment itself🤣.

Absolutely, all interaction with other Substackers is good and will make a difference! ✔️

I'm so honored to be mentioned here! I'm going to have to do this experiment this week, even though I'm late to the party.

I found your post eye-opening. I have this total fantasy story that people are getting hundreds of likes and double-digit restacks (+ followers) basically because they're better than I am at this notes thing and I'm lazy.

Turns out that's an old story on repeat in my head. 😂

Other people are just paying more attention than I am and repeating what works.

A/B testing I can do... stay tuned.

Thanks so much for sharing your results, glad you enjoyed playing along. 👏

There does seem to be a pattern re Monday being the worse performing!

So if you have a great idea for a post... hang on to it until at least Tuesday! 🤓

Now I am even more confused. Do I understand it that all the people who did the research shouldn’t report it here? My results weren’t especially interesting except that my urban fox note did better than most, rather like your sheep note. I did better with other notes about my feelings about Substack, at other times of day

Substack does like ‘pro SubStack’ notes, so I can see why that one did well. I would have thought the Sparkle one would have done better, maybe the Notes feed was a bit saturated with Sparkle Summit notes that day? 🤓

Thank you, Kate, for this experiment! It was a lot of fun. It was very difficult to stick to the time I set for myself, 20:00 🫣, but you kept me posting daily, which is an accomplishment in itself. I've never been much of a social media person.

That is ‘so Substack’ for your best performing Note to be the one that is basically a commentary of what you’re thinking whilst trying to write something. 👏🤓

Such interesting findings Kate, I’m still in the middle of my experiment as a little late to the party, although nothing has set the world alight (as yet). What I will plan to do is review the Notes I’ve shared not only once I’ve completed my week but also over the month to see if there are any patterns of content which resonates with my audience.

The best one was a fantastic quote from The Oldster Magazine (100% recommend subscribing, it's an AMAZING newsletter) so no surprises there.

I *was* surprised that 4 did so badly because it felt super genuine to write and was also a very substacky topic, but apparently nobody cared haha!
